Firstly, thank you to everyone who has contributed to bblocked via user base, code contribution, and use in other open source technologies (thanks for the exposure eyeOS). It has been very exciting to see my simple one page script turn into a very nice, light-weight, open source web proxy.

Now, the 5.6 branch has been around for awhile (without much change). Currently I have started some minor work towards a completely new code regeneration script to allow for more flexibility and support of more sites. However, it has been a while since I have shown much interest in developing this project and I am curious if anyone really wants to see a complete recoding of bblocked and if so what features users would like to see in the new release.

If you are interested in the new bblocked version, let us know on the forums. Please submit feature requests to we can craft bblocked to cater to your every need as a web-based proxy. Also, if development is continued then in the coming months we will need some alpha testers to ensure the new code performs well on all platforms.

Thanks again, and I hope to see lots of posts supporting further development on bblocked.

Welcome to 2008 and despite a lack of releases during the end of 2007 I am optimistic that we can finally release the Youtube support soon as well as fixing some of the nagging bugs brought up on the forums soon. rtfm has been quite busy lately with personal matters and so I will endeavour to push forward the project time permitting, again we still need a developer or two to help with this!

This was really just a quick note to let you know that you have not been forgotten, wishing you a happy new year and holidays and giving you an update on a few things

It’s been a long time since we’ve provided any official updates regarding bblocked, work is still in progress, primarily on video sites such as Youtube and ironing out compatibility issues with various setups. We have managed to decompile the Youtube player (we need to do this in order route the video through the proxy). If anyone has any decompiled media player from other sites such as Metacafe etc it would be very useful to the entire community. Just let us know how to get in contact with you via our contact form. Please do not post it on the forums before as we need to check out any copyright issues regarding this.

On another note we are still recruiting for someone to help work on the rewrite code with us, it seems to be getting the least attention at the moment and we certainly don’t want that to be the case, so if you’re a dab hand at PHP coding and know your fsockopen from your IF arguments then contact us via the contact form or leave us a note in the forums!

Hey all… I’ve been kind of neglecting bblocked for a while. There have been a few bugs that I just got around to, and some thing happening on the forums and on the bug tracker that I just wasn’t able to do anything about for some time.

My absence has been due to the fact that I am moving to Seattle, WA next week and have been trying to organize that situation and haven’t had the time to invest in our wonderful users. I’m sorry. I have left Sam stuck helping people by himself the best that he can. I hope that I will be able to help more frequently very soon.

For now though, as a present to all you faithful users that have had some small but annoying issues with bblocked 5.6.2, we have just released bblocked 5.6.3, which fixes many of the issues that our user group has expressed problems with.

Thanks again to Darren, Mike S. and Mattc908 for your positive feedback and great suggestions.

This release is generally a bug fix for a couple of bugs, the biggest bug being the sending of unencoded URLs upon initial site requests. Also, fixed problems with HTTP refresh header, as well as meta refresh tags.

As well as a few Content-Type issues, such as the ability to download torrents and other content that should be downloaded and not read… however, we still need to add in a section to change the file name to that of the file requested. I’m just too busy at the moment… Sorry everyone. But soon, defiantly within a month, hopefully before Monday, but we’ll what my schedule is like.

Today–or rather last nigh–marks a great millstone for the bblocked Project. This momentous occasion is something we never sawt after, or aspired to. Today we are very proud to announce that bblocked has been downloaded 3000+ times over its two year journey on SourceForge.

Now this grand total of over 3000 downloads isn’t entirely accurate. In addition to our SF account, bblocked has been available for download in many other places. First appearing on a site that demonstrated bblocked and allowed users to view the source. You can see a sample of that site here). Then along with our newly created SF account, many other mirrors picked up bblocked. We have also had the bblocked Source Center open for some time allowing the public to download the latest and greatest versions of bblocked.

So even though we probably have closer to 3500 or even 4000, we will celebrate this as our official 3000th download and be very happy with it. Thank you all for your unwavering support and love for everything bblocked stands for. We are extremely proud to stand next to you in the fight for a free and anonymous internet.

Well folks, it has been over a year since our last major release and we are really excited about this new version of bblocked. To most of you this is a very exciting and long waited day, for others (who have been keeping up-to-date with the alpha version of 5.6) this may be slightly less anticipated. But whoever you are, we are very proud to announce the official release of bblocked 5.6!

This new version comes along with our wonderful new site, which now has a support forum. We know that many of you have had hundreds of questions about when the new release was coming out, how to setup bblocked, or just like to express your gratitude (doesn’t happen enough). And now you can!

OK, enough publicizing, lets get down to business!

First off, we want to inform you that though version 5.5 beta was able to compete with other PHP-based proxy scripts we decided to completely recode the project from top to bottom. Starting with our user configurations page. Administrators now have access to a variety of runtime configurations in a single file, and admins aren’t the only ones reaping the benefits of more options. bblocked 5.6 now supports user configurations–which are controlled by the administrator–to allow the user access to as many or as few options as the administrator feels necessary.

Six all new themes, and a better template engine than ever before. bblocked 5.6 gives way for admins to select a theme that suits their taste, or easily make their own. Our new template engine supports PHP tags inside the template files, as well as the standard HTML tags and client-side languages. Each configuration setting can be used as an HTML tag that will be converted to its value. If you don’t understand it right away… don’t worry, we will soon post a guide to creating templates.

Faster page responses, more compatible and optimized coding choices in the scripts, and compressed output options, all help make bblocked the fastest, most efficient PHP proxy bypasser on the web. Then we took it a step further by adding global cache support. This is not quite the same as using HTTP 304 responses (however we do that too ). If enabled bblocked will save a copy of every page that was accessed–without authentication, or user cookies–and serve it up to future request, checking for updates upon new page requests.

With so many new and innovative features I could write several more pages, but I shall let you see and enjoy for yourself.

Happy surfing!

We’ve at last managed to get the new site up and running, there will be a few bugs scurrying about just let us know if you find any but hopefully it should be okay..

The new site includes a barrage of features to compliment the new release including some nice pretty information pages, a new download page (with SVN links) and of course the ever so pretty forums, they’re simple but get the job done . Please post any support requests etc in there so with any luck some other kind community souls will be able to help you and it won’t always be us receiving the hundreds of support emails.

The new design is also designed to be simple and clean, we hope you like it because if you don’t its tough Our bug tracker can be found by going into the forums and then clicking bugs, you seriously cannot miss it! We are still striving for donations to help cover some of the living costs etc, we do put a hell of a lot of time into this project and even if you can only donate a few dollars it would be greatly appreciated. Links to donate can be found as you go to download and at the bottom of every page!

The new site is an on-going project like bblocked and it will grow along with the community. Get registering on those forums!
